Are you getting enough REM Sleep?

REM Sleep

(Rapid Eye Movement)

REM sleep is a very important part of sleep and if you are recovering from alcohol or drug abuse and or going through really intense energy changes in your life then this is for you. Honestly everyone should be aware of this.

What is REM Sleep?

REM sleep happens 90 minutes after you fall asleep. The first period of REM typically lasts 10 minutes. Each of your later REM stages gets longer, and the final one may last up to an hour. Your heart rate and breathing quickens.

During REM this is where you have intense dreams since your brain is more active. REM is important bc it stimulates the areas of the brain that help with learning and is associated with increased production of proteins.

During Non REM Sleep your body is building bone and muscle, repairing and regenerating tissues, and strengthening the immune system.

Some ways to create your space so that you are able to receive the best REM sleep every night.

-Turn all electronics off in the room, sleeping with the TV on at night will disrupt you getting into this state of sleep.

-Make your room as dark as possible

- Have a routine for relaxation before bed.

-Do a few Breathing techniques before you lay down

-Hydrate before bed

-Set intentions for the next day

-don’t consume alcohol or caffeine before bed

-go to sleep at the same time and wake up at the same time

-do something active everyday (even a 30 min walk is powerful for the mind body and soul)

If you have trouble falling asleep try a few things:

-Take a warm bath or shower (use Lavender if you like it)

-Do some stretches before lying down

-Read inspirational material that brings you a sense of calm

-Say Mantras or Prayers before bed.

-Take some deep breaths and feel into your body.

-Cuddle with your partner or pet.

Sleep is one of the best medicines if you are trying to heal your mind and body from trauma, addiction, or mental health issues or just dealing with overall daily stress.

If you have the opportunity each day to do a 10 or 15 min meditation that will enhance your sleep and your mood overall.

Let me know your thoughts about sleep and if you have trouble sleeping or if you have other ways of preparing for sleep.

Have a Beautiful Day!

Ash
