Do you know someone who is addicted?

When I was in the thrawls of addiciton it felt like I was tied up and couldn’t do anything but get that drug and use it.

I knew I was hurting others, I knew I was dying inside and killing myself slowly.

I literally felt silenced by the chaos in my mind. Most may not understand this pain but there are millions who do. The ones who are experiencing this need our love just like a cancer patient or someone with an ailing disease.

Addiciton is harsh, it is nasty, it is secretive, and shameful. It keeps us locked in our heads leading us to believe we are the biggest pieces of shit on the earth so we should just keep using and die because we are worthless.

I know this is not a feel good post but it’s honest and real and people are dying every single day from this damn thing. Especially these days!

If you know people are struggling please don’t enable them but please don’t give up on them either.

The only answer I have for people who are dealing with an addict is do whatever you can to get them in treatment, do whatever you can to get them arrested, do whatever it takes to get them safely in a place where they can dry out.

And if you are done trying to help them because they just can’t get clean and keep using and you have exhausted all of your recourses and energy then you must I repeat MUST let it go and give it up to the one who created us. Prayers and thoughts of them being sober are poweful! Don’t forget that part!

And Yes I said arrested. If it weren’t for being arrested and the judicial system I wouldn’t be here right now. Guaranteed.

I am thankful for the judicial system, probation, my mom for calling on me, and my family and friends who have seen me grow through the pain of addiciton, the pain of recovery, and finally into the sweetest most peaceful place I could ever imagine!

It’s possible to be free from this disease! I am proof! You can be better than you ever were before using!
